Blending Tradition & Modernity: Dallas Interior Design and Architecture by Bodron Fruit

Bodron Fruit, a Dallas interior designer and architect, has always been a major proponent of the modernist movement. Rather than tearing down iconic midcentury modern properties, their work is rooted in the revitalization of classic architecture, supplemented by high-end interior design elements and modern home decor.

In this project, Bodron Fruit preserved the home’s traditional Nantucket-style exterior but completely transformed the inside with modern interior design elements. Traditional architectural design on the island of Nantucket typically involves shingle-style design, which became popular in the late 19th century and continues to be a locally loved aesthetic today. Gable and gambrel roof styles, designed to hold up against the region’s strong coastal winds, are also common on the island, as well as symmetry in the architectural design of homes. By preserving this Nantucket home’s shingle cladding, the home blends seamlessly with neighboring homes and pays homage to the history of the island’s traditional architectural style.

While major enhancements were made to the home’s interior design, the changes reflected common features found across Nantucket. Simple and functional layouts are a popular choice among local residents, so Bodron Fruit shifted from the home’s ninety’s post-modern style and opted for a more classic design. To simplify design elements, a cleaner, classic design that opened up spaces was implemented. Walls were removed to create an open environment and offer residents a seamless transition from inside to outside, as well as blend the kitchen and living room design. With these renovations, the home design remained true to the traditional style found in Nantucket.

The flow of the space wasn’t the only interior design update that was made. The expansive ocean views were also made a priority, with the addition of large, bronze-framed sliding glass doors that promoted natural light and stunning views from every corner of the home’s interior. Updates also included the installation of ten-inch white oak floors and newly painted walls to create a bright, open feel. Natural materials and coastal color palettes are often found in traditional Nantucket interior design, making this home’s interiors match the area’s historical style.

Furnishings and accents were also updated throughout the home. The living room decor included Scandinavian furnishings and accents, including a center hall table, a custom Tai Ping rug, contemporary chairs, and a vintage Finn Juhl dining table. A vintage poet sofa, also a Finn Juhl piece, as well as a marble side table, were added in front of the home’s traditional bay window, completing the living room design with sophistication and style.

Upgrades to the primary suite, guest rooms, and upstairs loft increase the home’s interior space, boost privacy, and emphasize ocean views. In addition to an expansion of the primary bedroom and guest loft updates, the careful curation of comfortable living spaces with modern home decor promotes relaxation for residents.

Throughout this luxury home renovation in Nantucket, Bodron Fruit remained true to its passion for revitalizing architectural design and home interiors, preserving the best of a structure’s traditional elements while applying today’s modern interior design elements. With a commitment to preserving spaces, Bodron Fruit blends timeless craftsmanship with innovative design to update homes that are both functional and inspiring.
